About BalanceWhiz

Know what your money needs to do next

BalanceWhiz started with a simple question:

How much money do I actually need in my checking account over the next few weeks or months?

I didn’t need another app to tell me what I had already spent. I didn’t want to build a detailed budget or categorize every purchase. And I didn’t want to keep more money sitting in checking than I needed to.

I wanted to look ahead.

BalanceWhiz gives you a simple forecast of your checking balance based on the money you know is coming in and going out — so you can see what’s ahead and make decisions with more confidence.

Why I built it

For years, I tried different budgeting apps, personal finance tools, and spreadsheets. They could tell me a lot about where my money had gone, but I kept coming back to a much simpler question:

What is my checking balance going to look like next week? Next month? Three months from now?

Real life doesn’t happen in neat monthly budgets.

There are paychecks and mortgages, but there are also summer camps, tuition payments, vacations, property taxes, kids’ activities, annual subscriptions, insurance bills, and all the other expenses that don’t arrive in convenient monthly increments.

I knew those expenses were coming. I just wanted an easy way to see them together with our regular income and bills — and understand what they meant for our future checking balance.

I couldn’t find a tool that worked quite the way I wanted.

So I built one.

A different way to think about your money

BalanceWhiz isn’t designed to tell you whether you spent too much on groceries last month.

Instead, it helps answer questions like:

  • How much do I actually need to keep in checking?
  • Can I safely move some of this money to savings?
  • Do I have enough set aside for a big expense next month?
  • Is there a point in the next few months when my balance gets tighter than I’d like?
  • What happens if I add a new expense or change when something gets paid?

You add the income and expenses you already know about, and BalanceWhiz turns them into a forward-looking view of your cash flow.

No traditional budget required. No need to track every purchase. And no bank connection required.

Simple by design

There are plenty of powerful personal finance tools that can track, categorize, analyze, and optimize nearly every dollar.

BalanceWhiz is intentionally simpler.

It’s for people who don’t necessarily want to manage every detail of their finances in an app. They just want a clear picture of what’s coming, when it’s coming, and whether the money will be there when they need it.

That’s the problem BalanceWhiz was built to solve.
